Georges Patrix – Untitled signed painting , 1962

This is an untitled, 1962 abstract painting by Georges Patrix (1920-1992). Autographed (at the back) to French architect Claude Parent with whom he collaborated on a project.

Georges Patrix was a French actor, painter and industrial designer. He is the cousin of the painter Michel Patrix. He was born on May 25, 1920 in Cherbourg and died on June 7, 1992 in Paris.

He was an actor in the 1940s and early 1950s, known for Le Silence de la Mer (directed by Jean-Pierre Melville,1949), La part de l’ombre (1945) and The Respectful Whore (1952). He acted in a dozen other movies.

Also a painter, Patrix attended Othon Friesz’s studio at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, an art school in the 14th district of Paris.

Patrix later became a consulting engineer in industrial aesthetics and founded a design office in Paris in 1950.

In 1965, he participated in the creation of the International Group of Prospective Architecture (G.I.A.P.)  The G.I.A.P was an association of intellectuals, including many architects, founded by Michel Ragon to propose prospective town planning and alternative architectures.

He also collaborated with renowned French architect Claude Parent for the Maison de la Culture de Troyes (Youth and Culture House in Troyes, France). Patrix was in charge of the interior design and interior color scheme of the building.
