Claude Parent & Paul Virilio: Architecture Principe n°9

Claude Parent & Paul Virilio: Architecture Principe n°9
First (and only) limited edition of Claude Parent & Paul Virilio’s ARCHITECTURE PRINCIPE manifesto. This issue #9 (December 1966) presents their proposal for the Charleville Cultural Center, bordering the river Meuse in France. This building was commissioned by the then-mayor of the city of Charleville, France, who later dropped the project. It remains one of the most beautiful buildings produced by the collaboration of Claude Parent and Paul Virilio. This copy comes directly from Claude Parent’s archives.

Claude Parent (1923-2016) and Paul Virilio (1932-2018) founded the Architecture Principe group in 1963, with painter Michel Carrade and sculptor Morice Lipsi. The oblique function would be the thread running throughout the nine issues of their magazine Architecture Principe, which were published between February and December 1966 (mainly by Parent and Virilio).

12 pages + covers, black & white. Semigloss cover has some slight wear on the spine, but it’s in very good condition given its age and interior pages are in great condition.

26cm x 22cm

Other work by Claude Parent on The Art Motion:
